According to the vision of the Budapest Climate Strategy and Sustainable Energy & Climate Action Plan 2030 that was adopted in March 2021, solar capacities need to increase by 1500 MW in Budapest by 2030. To support this goal, the Budapest Municipality launched a project in which legal and administrative barriers were explored and opportunities were identified to break them down.
During the project, stakeholders are working in three different working groups (residential, technical and local regulatory) to come up with solutions and actions for a greater PV penetration in Budapest.
The working groups started in September 2021 and will operate until the end of 2022. During this period, a detailed, GIS-based solar map of Budapest will be developed as well. The results, findings and techniques of this project will be integrated into the ATELIER project when involving different stakeholders in designing a City Vision for Budapest.
