Bratislava is the capital and the largest city of the Slovak Republic. It is located in the southwest of Slovakia, occupying both banks of the River Danube and the left bank of the River Morava. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital in the world that borders two sovereign states. With an estimated number of 650 000 inhabitants, and more than 100 000 daily commuters from the metropolitan area, Bratislava is the economic, cultural, educational and political centre of the country.

Having experienced rapid growth throughout the past decades, climate friendly and sustainable urban development are on the top of the city’s present-day priorities. Bratislava strives to become a liveable, accessible and healthy city with a low carbon footprint powered by innovative economy, sustainable resources and knowledgeable people.
